What is Pulmonary Fibrosis ?
Pulmonary fibrosis is a condition where the connective tissue in the lungs become rough and scarred due to excessive fibrin buildup. In order for the lungs to function properly and smoothly the pulmonary tissue must be flexible and moist. In pulmonary fibrosis the build-up up fibrin and scar tissue is caused by chronic inflammation.
The progression of pulmonary fibrosis for many individuals can be extremely frustrating and difficult. Many experience shortness of breath when it comes to carrying out daily tasks such as walking, lifting and even talking. Ultimately if left untreated this condition can lead to respiratory failure.
SYMPTOMS.
Causes:
Today, those whom suffer with pulmonary fibrosis are typically prescribed a corticosteroid to reduce the inflammation. However, recent literature on corticosteroids have shed light on the serious side effects that come with the pharmaceutical drug. The only other two medications that exist are azathioprine and cyclophosphamide. Unfortunately these medications also suppress the immune system.
